Pakistan – Before the euphoria ended!

Are you devastated? Depressed? feel that you have been let down by the Pakistani team? Then you are such a pessimist! Really, snap out of it!
To begin with let’s get the facts right, Pakistan lost to India in the world cup semi final and the count has risen to 5-0 when it comes to world cup matches. This is the truth and however hard you try it can not be neglected, you can not hide from it. You can shut down the television set and try not to imagine the celebrations going on in India but you know what? Those celebrations are nothing compared to the ones we saw in our country.
The past one week has been nothing but electrifying for the Pakistani nation! Streets buzzing with people, everywhere and everyone got gripped by the cricket fever. Office, gym, blogs, public transport, dhabay, pan shops, tv shows, mosques, churches, homes, neighborhoods or any other possible location where two Pakistanis could gather there was just one topic! People were praying for the team and hoping for the best, people were smiling and chanting songs! And did it stopped there? No it did not, as the big day came closer a wave of positive energy and happiness swept the entire country and it kept getting bigger and bigger when finally on the night before the match which was correctly termed as “chand raat” it exploded!
People, especially the youth of Pakistan could not resist the temptation and finally took to the streets. People riding on bikes and cars with flags waving and national songs playing, screaming on the top of their voices (me included
) chants of “Pakistan Zindabad!” accompanied with “Jeetega bhai Jeetega! Pakistan Jeetega”. Every single street of the country was decorated, giant screens were put up, special arrangements were made and the people were laughing and singing with pure joy. The entire country depicted a never before felt energy, not even the 1992 celebrations matched this “pre-match” celebrations and the only other occasion which comes to mind which would have came remotely close to this one would have been when Pakistan got independent i.e. way back in 1947. Do you realize what does this means?
This means that the people of Pakistan got a chance to celebrate and be happy for once leaving behind the tensions, troubles and woes of their daily life. For once the nation was united and stood for a single purpose. It was not a buzz or a hype, it was something much more than that! It was a state of “euphoria”
Last night a shocked Pakistani nation witnessed the end of an incredible world cup run. Dreams got shattered and expectations dropped down as Pakistan for the fifth time lost to India in world cup series. The reaction of the nation was expected, lashing on the team and cursing them but that was not what happened! The people of Pakistan (well most of us) stood by our team and cheered for them. The Pakistani team reached the semi-finals when the pundits and gurus were not even expecting them to clear the group stage. Our team fought well against the top notch teams of the world and even though we lost to arch rivals India we gained a lot from this series!
It makes me proud to say that not only our team performed well, but also our nation responded well and before the euphoria ended we witnessed and became part the rarest golden moments of joy, celebrations and happiness.
